Biography

Daniel Firl, MD is a postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital studying how advanced gene editing platforms might enable success in preclinical pig to non-human-primate xenotransplantation. Dr Firl completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Boston College prior to attending the Lerner College of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. While a medical student in Cleveland, he was appointed as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow and spent time in Michael Carroll’s lab at Boston Children's Hospital studying the role of B cell intrinsic selection in the germinal center. Prior to his postdoctoral time, he completed his junior years of surgical residency at Duke Surgery. He has contributed to dozens of publications in such journals as: Cell, the Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Hepatology, eLife, Liver Transplantation, and others.
