He developed the technique of splenic fossa auxiliary liver transplantation in the world and applied it to pre-clinical trial of pig liver xenotransplantation.
In 2013, Dou carried out the first pre-clinical trial of GTKO pig-to-monkey liver xenotransplantation in China, creating a world record of survival of 14 days after liver xenotransplantation.
In 2020, Dou carried out the first pre-clinical trial of PERV-KO, TKO and Multitransgenic pig-to-monkey organ xenotransplantation in the world. The liver, heart and kidney from one pig donor were transplanted to three rhesus monkeys, respectively. The length of recipient survival of liver transplantation was 26 days.
